M. Edward Guthrie, M.D.

  M. Edward Guthrie, M.D. specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. He attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at The Eye Foundation Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Guthrie then completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at Cedars-Sinai Hospital / Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in Beverly Hills, California

.  Dr. Guthrie has been an invited guest speaker across the country giving lectures at residency training programs, board review courses, and hospital grand rounds. He has been published in peer review journals and has presented data at the annual meeting of The American Academy of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus. Dr. Guthrie just finished co-authoring a chapter for a pediatric ophthalmology book on postnatal development of the human eye.  

  Dr. Guthrie is a member of multiple ophthalmology societies. While still in residency he invented a new surgical technique to assist with the removal of complicated cataracts, which he named pentagonal pupilloplasty.
